The University of Pécs, founded in 1367, is one of the largest institutions of higher education in Hungary. With its 31,000 students and its 500 different study programmes it offers the widest spectrum of teaching and research activities that is known and recognised even beyond our borders. At its ten faculties, the University offers a broad range of training and degree programmes, doctoral programmes, mobility programmes, summer and winter schools, including preparatory courses for medical and business studies.
Our primary goal is to offer high-level teaching and research in every possible area of study and to give as much assistance to the students studying here as possible. The University continuously works on expanding and improving its cooperation with other universities. It has extended partnership agreements with universities of neighbouring countries as well as with highly-ranked universities of Western Europe and the United States of America. The University has been offering study programmes in English for 25 years, and since then an increasing number of international students, faculty and researchers come from over 80 countries to the University of Pécs to study and to conduct research every year.
Located in Central Europe and in the South Western part of Hungary, Pécs is a culturally diverse and stimulating city. Pécs, the European Capital of Culture in 2010, is an active member of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community, the Healthy Cities movement supported by WHO and the Alliance of Medium-Size Towns (SESAME). Pécs is the fifth largest town in Hungary and also a centre of diplomacy as well: Austria, France, Germany, Finland and Italy have honorary consulates here. The General Consulate of Croatia is located near the University. The Turkish Consulate is in the nearby town of Szigetvár.
The University of Pécs warmly welcomes international academic and administrative staff at all ten faculties. The University has approximately 1,800 academic and research staff and 4,400 administrative and technical staff distributed among the faculties. The University does its best to make the period of employment of international academic and administrative staff a rewarding and positive experience.
